I am constantly blown away by the power of belief. Some people call it faith, a knowing, handing over to a higher power. The word doesn't really matter. In the end all that matters is a belief, a deep knowing and trust that everything is working out for us, we are loved and protected.
The movie Hacksaw Ridge, tells the extraordinary true story of conscientious objector Desmond T. Doss who saved 75 men in Okinawa, during the bloodiest battle of WWII, without firing a single shot. Believing that the war was just but killing was nevertheless wrong, he was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon. As an army medic Doss single-handedly evacuated the wounded near enemy lines - braving enemy fire and putting his own life on the line. He had a unwavering faith in God and that he would be protected. During the battle, he kept repeating to himself. "Dear god, let me save just one more man". He saved 75 men with his faith and belief that night in the face of horror.
Many of us face different sorts of battles be it, financial anxiety, the loss of a relationship or a husband or wife. To have an unwavering belief that it will get better and not only that it will be better than ok takes guts. It is easy to set intentions and have a belief when life is ticking along. Miracles happen when we ask.
I am so grateful that a film like this is in the mainstream. It is heartfelt and a great reminder that we are each able to create great change and outcome by our personal powers of belief, that it can have lasting effects on many people and their lives.
Thank you Desmond for your heroic acts and for reminding us all of the power of belief.
